United Pasokmomogun KadazanDusun Murut (UPKO) president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok has broken his silence on the persistent rumour that his deputy, Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Bumburing, has left the party.
“That is not true, he is a personal friend of mine and the party’s deputy. In fact I have just spoken to him and he is astounded that there is this type of talk being circulated by people,” the Penampang member of parliament said.
Dompok who is also Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister added, “it is just a rumour which is incorrect”.
Dompok said this when asked to comment on talks that Bumburing, the Tuaran member of parliament, had left UPKO.
Bumburing has personally denied the rumours and said that the talk of him ditching UPKO has been around for a long time.
UPKO secretary general Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau has also shot down the rumours and explained that Bumburing was in Kuala Lumpur attending the Dewan Rakyat sitting.
Dompok who was met at the Philip Morris Malaysia and Yayasan Salam Malaysia (SALAM) community programme at Kampung Putaton Inobong here yesterday, was also asked about UPKO’s preparation for the coming 13th general election.
UPKO, he said, has not yet submitted its list of candidates to the Sabah BN chairman Datuk Seri Musa Aman nor the Prime Minister cum BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“We have made known to the BN where we think we should be and that is as far as we have gone.
The time has not come for us to submit names but it will not be a difficult thing to do so,” he said.
According to Dompok, BN requires each component party to submit at least three names for each constituency.
“And we can submit three or four or five names. There are a lot of talents around,” he said.
