Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian has set his sights on Limbang parliamentary constituency.
Declaring his intention to contest the seat in the upcoming general election, Bian said his vision is to see the people in the constituency move forward.
“It is my vision to see great improvement and moving forward for the people of this area, and I am sure I am not alone in my aspirations.
“Therefore I wish to invite all the people of Limbang and the surrounding areas who share my vision to come forward to assist us in our outreach to the community.
“We need as many volunteers as possible to help us with various activities, ranging from registering new voters to distributing materials in the more remote areas, starting immediately,” said Bian, who is the Ba’Kelalan assemblyman in his letter of appeal to the voters in Limbang.
He will be in PKR Limbang office at 10am on March 6, 2012 for a meeting with those who are willing to help.
“My friends, former students, supporters and those who wish to see a change are cordially invited to come and have a discussion with me,” he said.
In the last election, PKR candidate Lau Liak Koi was narrowly defeated by Hasbi Habibollah of BN-PBB when he secured 5,751 votes as against Barisan Nasional’s 6,427. BN won the seat by a 676 vote majority.
Limbang which comprises Batu Danau and Bukit Kota has an electorate of 20,315 voters according to the 2008 electoral rolls.
“With Bian’s as a candidate, Limbang is very shaky, especially if he can get support from about 9,500 Dayak voters comprising more than 5,500 Orang Ulu voters and about 4,000 Iban voters.
“Certainly he can count on the support of 4,600 Chinese voters,” said a former leader of Sarawak National Party (SNAP), who has now joined PKR.
He said Bian could even get some support from the more than 8,000 Malay voters.
