Philip Ngo a member of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party extended an olive branch to the party’s deputy president Datuk Peter Nyarok Entrie who strongly objected to his nomination to the supreme council in a press statement on Sunday.
Nyarok was against Philip’s nomination because of the latter’s past close relationship with the five elected representatives who were sacked by the party last year.
Philip was calm over Nyarok’s outburst saying all along he was a party member at heart and it was not fair to brand him a sympathiser of the former party leaders.
In his email yesterday responding to Nyarok’s comments, Philip said in a political party like SPDP, no member is higher than the party.
“Party interest must be above self and the interest, welfare and the aspiration of the party members must be taken into account otherwise the party will crumble and disintegrate. I have always subscribed to this principle and I have been a loyal and contributing ordinary member of SPDP,” he said.
“I have the utmost respect for Datuk Peter Nyarok, and I acknowledged his contribution to the party. In fact I look up to him as a big brother and a father figure. I take no offense to his opinion rather I takes it as a compliment,” Philip pointed out that whatever happened in the last TGA (2009) was part of the party’s constructive democratic process. Then Philip challenged Nyarok for the deputy post but lost badly.
“For the sake of the members and the party, once again I called upon all our members to close rank, in trust and goodwill and to move forward in unity and harmony, and to restore SPDP’s strength. We must take heed the advice of our President (Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom) and Chief Minister (Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud) and for the sake of Barisan Nasional – even in the most trying circumstances there must still be room for reconciliation,” he said.
He said he did not seek party position.
