Pairin Wants Seat Allocation Discussed In Roundtable

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan wants the seat allocation issue among state Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to be discussed in a roundtable and not openly to ensure that the matter is solved in the spirit of BN.

Pairin, who is Deputy Chief Minister, said the seat allocation agreed upon by all state BN component parties in the last election should be made the basis for any discussion on the matter.

“Only the parliamentary and state seats held by Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) (which left the BN in September 2008) should be discussed among the component parties,” he told reporters after opening the state-level World Water Day Conference, here yesterday.

SAPP Advises UPKO To Quit BN

Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) advised United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Organisation (UPKO) to quit Barisan Nasional (BN).

SAPP vice president Japiril Suhaimin said UPKO should take the drastic action because the ruling coalition would not set up the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe the huge number of illegal immigrants in Sabah.

PKO s disappointment with the slow progress in the setting up of the RCI is similar to having no confidence in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. SAPP quit BN in September 2008 after having no confidence in the then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. So, I advise UPKO to follow our footstep,?he said in a statement yesterday.

Ex-Leader Claims PKR Crippled In Keningau

A former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leader claimed that the Malaya-based party here is already crippled as more than 2,000 members have since quit it for the State Reform Party (STAR).

“I myself as being the elected deputy head of PKR for Keningau division, has quit together with the majority of the elected divisional committee members. Among those who have also quit were the division vice head, Daniel Palangi and its information chief, Salim Nair,” Melvin Jaikul said.

Others in the divisional line-up who have also quit are Fred Aliun, Dominic Liew, Adrian Mikin and Alex Amik to mention a few, Melvin claimed in a statement yesterday.

Meanwhile in the divisional youth, all but one, had also left PKR for STAR. Likewise in the women wing, many have left too, joining more than 2,000 PKR members in STAR which is led by Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

“There will be more who will leave PKR both in Keningau and in other divisions too. In the very near future there will be an exodus from PKR Putatan to join STAR,” he said.

PBS Has Right To Ask For SAPP Held Seats – Mositun

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) also has the right to ask for the quota previously allocated to Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), said its information chief, Datuk Johnny Mositun.

“Of course PBS has the right to request for the vacant BN seats because we too are a Barisan Nasional (BN) component party,” he said, commenting on the recent revelation by the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) that it had submitted a list of some 20 candidates to be fielded in 10 constituencies, including all of that previously held by SAPP.

Mositun when contacted yesterday, said “while LDP also has the right to make the request especially for the constituency formerly represented by a Chinese component party, it does not mean the party should get all the vacant seats available.”

Dakwaan Sijil Halal Sukar Diperolehi Tidak Benar: Daud

Dr Tiki Leaves His Candidacy To Top BN Leadership

Incumbent Mas Gading MP Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe is leaving it to Barisan Nasional (BN) top leadership to decide whether he should defend his seat in the coming general election.

“It’s up to BN. Of course SPDP (Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party) has to propose their own candidate because I am not with them anymore. That is their right,” he said.

He told The Borneo Post this through short messaging system (SMS) when asked to comment on the remark by Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud that he would leave the candidacy for Mas Gading to SPDP.

Taib, who is state BN chairman, told the media in Bintulu on Sunday that he would let SPDP nominate the candidate for Mas Gading for Prime Minister and national BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to endorse.

“Well, what I want to do is to let the prime minister have the privilege of analysing who is the most winnable candidate for Mas Gading,” he was quoted as saying after opening SPDP’s triennial general assembly (TGA).

The statement by Taib was seen by many people, particularly SPDP leaders and members, as a clear indication that BN would be fielding a new face in Mas Gading in the coming election to replace Dr Tiki.

PRU13: 3 Jun Tidak Sesuai, Tidak Sensitif Sarawak, Sabah

Philip Ngo a member of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party extended an olive branch to the party’s deputy president Datuk Peter Nyarok Entrie who strongly objected to his nomination to the supreme council in a press statement on Sunday.

Nyarok was against Philip’s nomination because of the latter’s past close relationship with the five elected representatives who were sacked by the party last year.

Philip was calm over Nyarok’s outburst saying all along he was a party member at heart and it was not fair to brand him a sympathiser of the former party leaders.

Former SPDP 5 Too Overzealous That They Overlooked Facts, Says Balang

SPDP secretary general Nelson Balang Rining yesterday said he was disappointed with the five office bearers who had been sacked from the party for allegedly trying to confuse the public.

Referring to Ba Kelalan constituency, the former Ba Kelalan assemblyman said the five were too overzealous with their eagerness to demonise party president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom to the extent that they had forgotten the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate who defended the constituency in the last state election.

“It was not me who contested then but another party member Willie Liau. I retained the seat for BN twice before Willie took over last minute during last April 16 state polls,” he said in jest.

PBS doubts CM post offered to Jeffrey in 1994

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) vice president Datuk Radin Malleh has questioned the authenticity of STAR Sabah chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan’s claim that he was offered to be the Sabah Chief Minister in 1994.

The Melalap assemblyman in a statement yesterday said that it was doubtful Jeffrey was offered the Chief Minister post in 1994 by the then Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad.
“Because if it is true then his brainchild party namely Parti Demokratik Sabah Bersatu (PBDS) should have been registered by Mahathir who also happened to be the Home Minister,” he said.

According to Radin, he vividly remembered watching on television, Jeffrey waiting outside the room where Mahathir was having a meeting with Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties.

“But until the BN government was formed in Sabah in April 1994, his PBDS was not approved by Mahathir. So he joined AKAR, then PBRS, and he created problems there resulting in him being sacked by the respective parties.

Lim Kit Siang Boleh Jadi Presiden PAS - TDM

FORMER prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad described Pas's willingness to accept non-Muslims into high ranking positions in the party as "good".

This, Dr Mahathir, said was so as the opposition party had previously labelled Umno as kafir (infidels) for working with non-Muslim-based component parties.

Current Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had in 1981 called Umno members and supporters in a ceramah "infidels" and had also once opposed any co-operation with non-Muslims.

Dr Mahathir said Pas had since changed its stance, suggesting that non-Muslims could be party leaders, although he questioned how far they were willing to go.
